No telling where politics will take this one, but this could be one of the most important bills proposed in the State of California of my time. The Washington Times has the details. Here is the crux:
This bill would specifically do the following:
1) "Prohibit a health care service plan or health insurer" from requiring that a patient try and fail on more than two pain medications before allowing access to other medications to treat pain...
2) "Authorize the duration" of any step therapy or fail first protocol to be determined by a physician.What more do you need to know? Physician authority means better individual treatment and patient choice. The alternative is for all health decisions to be made by a federal authority, based on patient averages as reported in clinical literature.
